Presenting Our 2021/2022 Season

The CJRO Sextet continues a tradition begun a couple years ago, where the group performs a classic jazz album in the order it was recorded. The sextet will perform the entire album, Kind of Blue, featuring classic tunes such as “So What,” “Blue in Green,” and “Freddie Freeloader.” University of Northern Colorado’s Instructor of vocal jazz Marion Powers will be featured.

Billie Holiday was famous for many jazz tunes, such as “Summertime,” and “God Bless the Child.” The CJRO Sextet featuring Heidi Schmidt will perform many of these hits, along with tunes associated with her favorite sideman, tenor saxophonist Lester Young. It’s going to be swingin' evening!

Refreshing and beautiful are how many have described the voice and persona of Tatiana “LadyMay” Mayfield, a jazz vocalist, musician, composer, and educator from Fort Worth, Texas. “LadyMay” (as she has been named) has been singing and playing jazz since the tender age of thirteen. Since then, she has performed in venues and festivals throughout the U.S., earning her rave reviews and numerous awards.

This exciting trio performed last summer in a courageous “parking lot concert” at the PACE Center. Jeff Jenkins drives the Hammond B3 organ at the center of this group which has been instrumental (pun intended) in hundreds of classic jazz albums. Guitarist Mike Abbott and drummer Mike Marlier round out this group. 2B3 will not only perform selections from their acclaimed recording presenting the music of Jimi Hendrix, but will play tunes from their latest R&B release. Think the music of Aretha Franklin and Sam Cooke, but for a rockin’ organ trio!
