Fundamentals of Landscape Painting

This workshop will focus on the how and why of landscape painting. We will concentrate on improving our composition skills, understanding the importance of simplification of shapes and masses, understanding the importance of correct values, atmospheric perspective, creating a center of interest, the use of edges, drawing and color. 
This workshop is for those who already enjoy working with pastels and/or oils, or committed students who wish to experiment with these mediums.

Lorenzo Chavez Biography

Painting Landscapes: Outdoors

Instructor: Lorenzo Chavez | Ability: Beginner, Intermediate
This workshop will focus on teaching the fundamentals of outdoor landscape painting using oil and/or pastel. Pastel and oil are great landscape sketching mediums—their consistency of color and quick handling are valuable when working outdoors. We will cover concept emphasis, shape, line, values, colors, edges and the importance of an emotional involvement. Atmospheric and linear perspective, understanding the natural light and color outdoors will be discussed and applied. 
All workshop days will be spent in the field (weather permitting) where we can observe and study the outdoors first hand. Demonstrations and critiques will be conducted on a group and individual basis.
SPECIAL NOTE: Students will meet at PACE Center in Parker for the first class; then will meet at a pre-determined paint location for each class following.

The Wonder of Watercolor

Instructor: Kris Iltis |
Ability: Beginner, Intermediate
This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of watercolor painting with a non-traditional Impressionistic approach that will help you to paint outside the lines. The instructor will guide you as you learn the many wonderful techniques of watercolor. You will hone your drawing skills, learn color theory, and the concepts of composition and value. At the end of the day, you will go home with a completed painting and many new skills.
Session A: Saturday, Feb. 3 | 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Session B: Saturday, Mar. 10 | 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
