Art Exhibit: Vernette Anne Gilbert
The Parker Artists Guild honors former member, Vernette Anne Gilbert – Artist, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother & Friend to Many.

September 19, 1936 – April 21, 2020
About the Artist:
Vernette Anne Gilbert was born in Chicago, Illinois to Swedish Immigrants, where she grew up in the city with strong values such as hard work, learning various life skills, duty to family and practicing faith. At the age 19 she married her teenage sweetheart Steve Gilbert and was married for 64 years! Their first son Stephen IV was born in 1956 and suffered a severe birth injury, placing Vernette in a full-time position as nurturer and nurse amongst many other duties.
As the years went on, Vernette found that her disabled child flourished while doing activities such as finger paintings and other creative projects. During this interaction with her child, Vernette had cultivated her own artistic talents.
It wasn’t long before Vernette became active in local artist activities, earning an education at George Mason University specializing in art therapy. This journey led her to these activities through 55 years:
-Docent in every Art Museum she could find
-Participated in numerous Art Colonies such as the renowned Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia
-Newport Beach & Laguna Beach Art Museums in California
-Art-A-Fair in Laguna Beach -artist participant & President
-Parker Artists Guild
-Annual Art-In-The-Park
Vernette’s home always smelled of oil paint (hundreds of tubes in every color), mineral spirits, and canvas, just like you would think an artist’s studio would smell. You would always find all sizes of brushes, mingled among the various easels. Vernette, a women of deep faith, loved family and friends, was an absolute dynamite cook, an avid gardener, too many talents to list! She was always steadfast, consistent, and very loving! Vernette passed away quietly on April 21, 2020 leaving her legacy of art in many homes around the country.
