Creative Music Making

Ages: 14-18
Explore creative music making skills in a supportive group environment! Students will learn how to write songs, compose music and produce each other’s music. Songwriting skills include writing the “key ingredients” of lyrics, melodies, chord progressions and structure.
This ongoing class develops the creative and collaborative skills of music producers, such as general skills in guitar, keyboard and music technology applications. This class will also develop skills in the music production process, such as jamming and rehearsing, preparing for live performance, notating music using Sibelius First software and recording using Ableton Live software. Students will gradually specialize in one skill or another, but all students will develop their: real world understanding of music theory, collaborative skills and creativity. Mixed-ability class: suitable for any students who already play instruments, intermediate or advanced. Students should bring their own laptops in order to utilize free hardware and software. They are also encouraged to bring their own musical instruments.
