The Cultural Department of the Town of Parker, also known as Parker Arts, is pleased to announce that Lorenzo Chavez is returning for his second as the artist-in-residence at The Schoolhouse Artist Studio in Downtown Parker.
Housed in Parker's 100-year-old Schoolhouse which is undergoing historic rehabilitation, the space has been transformed into a classic art studio environment. Not only will it serve as Chavez’s primary work space, The Schoolhouse Studio will also include a small gallery of artworks by Chavez and other area artists, as well as a small fine art library, and teaching space for his private and group lessons. Chavez will have open studio times where other artists can drop in for group drawing or painting sessions, and visitors can gain insight into the creative process by watching a professional artist at work. Chavez and Parker Arts plan to offer workshops, cultural events, and other educational experiences as part of this new art partnership.
During Chavez’s residency, Parker Arts will promote his artwork, classes and demonstrations, provide exhibition and lecture opportunities, and offer business assistance through the Office of Economic Development. In turn, Chavez will help Parker Arts develop The Schoolhouse Studio as an ongoing program that will give future working professional artists the opportunity to cultivate their creative businesses. The ultimate goal of the program is to expand Parker’s professional artist studios, galleries, and maker spaces, particularly in the downtown area.
Chavez, a Parker resident, is a distinguished artist and instructor working in oils and pastels. He participates in many prestigious national invitation groups, and was honored with a successful one-man show at the C.M. Russell Museum. His work has been featured in popular publications such as Southwest Art, Artists of the West, and The Artist’s Magazine. Chavez is also an active member of the Plein Air Painters of America, Western Rendezvous of Art, California Art Club-Signature Member, Pastel Society of Spain and The American Impressionist Society- Signature Member.
Chavez's studio hours are typically 9 am - 4 pm, but please call 720.202.0757 to schedule a studio visit as The Schoolhouse is closed for renovation through January of 2018.
